Emtec Energy Delivers Solar Project at The Macallan Estate

Powering Sustainability at The Macallan Estate

Emtec Energy is pleased to announce the successful completion and energisation of a major solar installation at The Macallan Estate in Craigellachie, Moray. This ground-mounted 2.1MW solar PV system is now supplying clean, on-site energy to one of Scotland’s most iconic distilleries, making a significant contribution to its sustainability goals.

The system is expected to meet around  50% of the distillery’s daytime electricity demand and approximately 25% of its annual energy usage. The project supports The Macallan's broader decarbonisation strategy and complements existing renewable initiatives such as its biomass infrastructure.

Integrated Delivery Through Emtec Expertise

As the appointed EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor, Emtec Energy was responsible for the complete delivery of the project, including design, procurement, construction and commissioning.

A key factor in the successful delivery was the role of Emtec Utility Services, acting as the Independent Connection Provider (ICP). The team managed the grid connection process efficiently and safely, ensuring compliance and seamless integration with the local electricity network.

This project demonstrates Emtec Energy’s capability to deliver complex renewable energy systems through a coordinated, in-house approach. Our engineering and delivery teams work closely to provide end-to-end solutions that reduce risk, increase value and ensure delivery to programme.

Chris Clark, Director of Emtec Energy, said:

“At Emtec Energy, we’re proud to see this ground-breaking solar project now fully energised at The Macallan Estate. Delivering clean, on-site generation for such an iconic brand has been a privilege, and our collaboration with EDF Renewables UK and SAS Energy has highlighted the strength of our joint expertise in large-scale, behind-the-meter solar solutions. Decarbonising electricity use at source is a vital part of the journey to net zero, and The Macallan is now setting a powerful example for the Scotch whisky industry to follow.”

Supporting Commercial and Industrial Net Zero Goals

The Macallan Estate solar project was developed in partnership with SAS Energy, the commercial and industrial solar division of EDF Renewables UK. It is the first Scottish commercial and industrial solar development for SAS Energy.

As more businesses look to secure resilient and sustainable energy sources, The Macallan Estate installation serves as a strong example of how bespoke, high-impact solar solutions can support long-term environmental and economic goals.

Emtec Energy continues to support clients across the UK with integrated renewable energy services, providing technical expertise, turnkey delivery and trusted partnership throughout the journey to net zero.
