Ground Mounted Solar Arrays, or Solar Farms, have been increasingly popular as a modular solution to a site's electricity requirements. To fully utilise any spare land a bespoke system can be designed to provide the most efficient and cost effective Ground Mounted Solar PV system which will deliver maximum financial benefit to your business. Ground mounted Solar PV arrays tend to take slightly longer to deploy than Roof Mounted systems and to be more expensive. This is largely down to the Planning requirements, ground investigation surveys and structural steel requirements presented by such a project. Emtec Energy will manage each stage of the process to ensure a seamless deployment and that your system achieves best value for investment.
Many of our clients choose to install Solar PV arrays on land that they own or manage, either in conjunction with a roof mounted project or as a stand alone array. There are several key benefits to ground mounting Solar PV arrays, pricncipally the ease of access for future cleaning and maintenance, but also the reduction of risk by minimising Working at Height requirements. Consult with us today to find out how we can make your land work harder for you.
Yes Ground mounted PV systems are very popular. These tend to be more expensive than roof mounted commercial PV projects and are more cost-effective when installed at a larger scale. Installation costs for ground mounted commercial Solar PV systems can vary greatly depending on the ground fixing solution, civil works requirements and distance from connection point.
Effectively all ground mounted Solar PV Systems will require Full Planning Permission. In England & Wales, roof mounted Solar PV Projects up to 1MWp fall under Permitted Development, though full Planning Permission may still be required in certain areas. In Scotland, at the time of writing, commercial roof mounted Solar PV projects of up to 50kWp fall under Permitted Development Rights, however, it is expected that by Summer 2024 these Permitted Development rights will have been brought up to at least 1MWp. Generally Ground Mounted Solar Arrays are more expensive. This is largely due to the amount of steel required for the framing system, the specialist labour required for installation and civil engineering costs.
