Feed-in Tariff (FiT)

What is it?

The Feed-in Tariff scheme is a government programme to increase the uptake of environmentally friendly technologies. It benefits include an energy generation tariff and an exporting tariff, providing new revenue streams which can contribute to already existing reductions in your energy bills. For example, when you install renewable energy technology in your property, all the energy you do not consume is fed back to the grid. In doing so, many major energy companies will pay you for the energy you export.

Who is eligible?

This tariff is available for anyone with the eligible technology and a system capacity up to 5MW. Depending on the technology installed and date applied, FiT applicants can receive payments for up to 20 years. However, applications are expected to end on 31st March 2021.

Qualifying technologies include solar PV and combined heat and power (CHP) installations.

How much will you get?

The tariff rates available depend on a variety of factors, including:

Benefits of the Feed-in Tariff

FI Icon 1

Generation Tariff

Your energy supplier will pay you a set rate depending on the amount of energy your system generates. This is calculated using the units generated (kWh) and the tariff level available

FI Icon 2

Export Tariff

You will also receive payments from your energy supplier for the additional units of energy to export back to the grid

Cheaper Energy Bills

Naturally, you will see an instant drop in energy bills as you are purchasing less electricity from your energy provider

Grid Network

Connection to the electricity network allows any excess power to be fed back to the grid. This means others can benefit from the generation of clean energy
